Swim Ireland Director Of Education May 22nd 2009
RE. Conference for Swim Coaches and Teachers: Limerick, 19 August, 2009
(Circular 1)
22nd May 2009

Dear Tutors, Teachers and Coaches,
I am delighted to be writing to you on behalf of Swim Ireland to inform you about a very
exciting event that is coming to Ireland this year where swimming has been placed highly on
the agenda of an international sports science conference.

The Applied swimming programme on the 19th August in Limerick in 2009 is a must for all
teacher and coaches who care about their effectiveness as a coach. The programme (please
see attached flyer for more information) has been prepared to educate tutors, teachers and
coaches and to inspire, help and support them to carry out their role in our clubs applying the
latest ‘cutting edge’ knowledge. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the leading
sport scientists in our sport all in the same building!

Topics that will be covered on the day will include presentations on how coaches can use
swimming science effectively, preventing swimming injuries, personalising the taper, avoiding
over training, psychological preparation, physiological monitoring in swimming, land training
and a number of technical presentations including economical swimming, race analysis and
our very own Conor Osborough is also delivering a presentation case study about working
with Irish coaches in swimming. We hope you will use this opportunity to network with other
coaches and question, challenge and learn from these leading International experts.
I am attaching a leaflet for you which covers some of the main detail that you need to register
your place and to find out what is on the full agenda. Please make sure you visit
www.ISBS2009.com. If you are genuinely interested in Swimming you will seize this
opportunity with both hands and encourage others!

The conference fee for the day is €95.00 and accommodation at €58.00 per night. Please
note that whilst SI have worked with the conference organisers in shaping the programme, all
costs are related to the costs of ISBS hosting the conference. The speakers have recognised
the importance of passing on their expertise to improve swimming coaching practice by
donating their time FOC and we hope you will support them as much as possible.
SI will award Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits to tutors, coaches and
teachers that attend the event, our licensing programme is due to be launched later in the
year and these credits will count!

We would encourage you to register and sign up as soon as possible through
www.ISBS2009.com. Information updates including speaker biographies and summaries of
their presentations will appear on www.coachesinfo.com.
Kind regards,
Charlotte Parker
